Distant Galaxy Search Applying Astrogrid

Overview:

The first astronomical problem that has been experienced by IPI RAN together with the Special Astrophysical Observatory of RAS (SAO RAS) applying AstroGrid and Aladin is a distant radio galaxy search in the sky strip investigated in the “Cold” deep survey with the RATAN-600 (large Russian radio telescope). We used RCcatalogue as a list of initial radio sources. We had to select optical sources with certain properties taken from DR 3 SDSS and crosssmatched them with the RCcatalogue. The result of the crossmatch may contain candidates for distant galaxies that should be analyzed further applying their images and Aladin capabilities.

  • This application performs crossMatch
  • NullStringDelete (ivo://ipi.ac.ru/delNullStrings)
  • This application deletes all empty rows from VOTable
  • GetImage (ivo://ipi.ac.ru/submitAladinScript)
  • This application submits script written on the Aladin script language. This script has two parameters #Ra, #Dec.

Workflow for distant galaxy search problem

Workflow consists of 4 steps:
  • Get data from RC Catalog and SDSS Catalog (RCQuery, SDSSQuery)
  • CrossMatch result of previous steps (XMatch)
  • Prepare data for Image Retrieval tool (DeleteNullStrings, workflow script)
  • Get images in cycle (GetImage)
